Welcome to the City of Newport Model Engineering Society website
The Society has a 5 acre site at the Glebelands Park (what3words = economies.crest.dive) which is continuously being developed and extended to run our 5” and 7 1/4” dual-gauge track miniature railway. We are in the process of building a signal box, ticket office and engine shed. The engines run out of the station and join the main circuit which takes you around the perimeter of the site.
The members all have different interests and expertise including general engineering, electronic engineering, building, mowing and general landscaping.
The Society meets on a Saturday to continue with the ongoing projects and on a Wednesday evening to have other engineering discussions.
The Society opens the site to the public to enjoy rides on our steam and electric trains, please view our Public Events page to see when or visit us on Facebook at Glebelands Miniature Railway.
Safety Guide-lines for our Running Days:
Our club is a working site with many projects in progress. We suggest appropriate footwear and clothing is worn while on site. We ask that you supervise your children and pets and observe the signs around the site as this will ensure you have an enjoyable, safe visit to our miniature railway. There are areas you will be unable to enter but there are large areas of our site for children to run about. Please only cross the track at designated crossings. While travelling on our trains please do not stand or reach outwards and keep your feet on the running boards at all times.
If you would like more information about the Society make yourself know to a club member on our Open Day as we always happy to welcome new members. Below are links to our application forms.
